I wanted to do a really stripped down version of this song because of what the words really mean to me. These lyrics sound like they could be about an unhealthy relationship or something, but the song is actually about obsessive thoughts. The original is a bop, but I must admit - this version hits in a different way.

The ones around them feel a shift, and they start to wake up to themselves, too. Then all of those people cause their own ripple effects that reach in wider and wider circles, and the chain reaction continues. What if we all gave ourselves permission to become truly authentic? Think of how far that ripple could go…

“This is a long, long chain that I’ve been handed / And the kinks are mine to undo / But things do get better / And I am living proof.” We’re taught so many things and receive so many messages growing up. Not all of those things are helpful, and some of them are downright hurtful. While it’s nobody’s fault, I do believe it’s our responsibility to right the wrongs happening within our own minds so that we don’t pass on the poison to anyone else. “This begins a new way.”
